Laurie Kampe

My work is a reflection of what I am drawn to:

simplicity and texture, urban energy and stillness. The imagery of this body of work is an exploration of

large abstract spaces often with a figurative element. A situation is created, a moment left for the viewer to interpret. The work is born from a mixture of abstract concepts, sketches from life, pictures, places and

imagination. My process includes creating charcoal studies and painting from those studies. This allows for deeper, more natural expression in my work.

Laurie Kampe was born in Arlington Heights, IL. She received a Bachelor's degree in Art from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with an emphasis in design. During college she continued her studies through studio classes in drawing, printmaking and sculpture.

Laurie then pursued a career in design as a book and magazine designer. She went on to consult as a web designer and information architect. The result of her design work is in the Smithsonian Institution's permanent collection, and she has received numerous other recognitions and awards.

In 2004 Laurie chose to dedicate herself fully to art and continued her studies at the Art Students League of Denver. Laurie lives outside of Denver, Colorado.
