Janet Moore

“Colorado landscapes are the places we go for solace and inspiration. They may be real places of pastoral charm or mental meadows where imaginations can run wildly amok. They are magical and majestic spaces that take you out of today’s hectic world. The works I prepared for this exhibition have this in common – reverence of natural elements. When composing a painting, I look for variety of texture and nuances of color. I look for unusual and familiar shapes. I am particularly fond of painting water because of its many depths of color and movement. I love old gnarled wood and get lost in the ridges and valleys. I look for subjects that will challenge the conventional ideas about working in egg tempera: It is possible to express light like the Impressionists. Not all edges must be hard.”
-Janet Moore

Inspired by the works of Andrew Wyeth and Mark Thompson, Janet began studying egg tempera with Mark at the Art Students League of Denver. She quickly fell in love with the results that can be achieved with this medium. Now she reserves her penchant for detailed realism for egg tempera works and gets loose with her watercolors. In addition to studying with Mark Thompson, Janet has attended workshops at the Art Students League of Denver with artists Lynn Kircher, Ellie Wheatley, Buffalo Kaplinsky and Tony Ortega. Since 1998, Janet’s work has been included in many juried shows throughout the western states and she has won several honors for both her egg temperas and her watercolors. She has achieved signature membership in the Wyoming Watercolor Society and the National Association of Artists. Janet lives in Englewood, Colorado (with her husband and herd of cats) where she is Vice-Chairman of the City of Englewood’s Cultural Arts Commission. She is also a Trustee of Englewood Arts, a non-profit charity that provides art opportunities in the City. And, she is the Chairman of the annual National Juried Art Show sponsored by that organization.
